From your perspective, how has the role of lab operations and facilities evolved in recent years as teams are being asked to do more with less?
In recent years I see more leveraging or 'insourcing' from external companies, with the lab ops role becoming more management of those relationships and other companies' employees
What are the biggest operational challenges facing lab ops and facilities teams today, and how are organizations adapting to them?
How quickly everything is changing or supply chain interruptions due to geo-political events. Take your pick. I think organizations are struggling to adapt
Looking ahead, what do you think “best-in-class” lab operations will look like over the next 5–10 years, and which innovations or trends are you most excited about?
From a basic perspective, less will be done over email. Communication with scientists and information transparency will have improved to the point that everyone has information at their finger-tips and don't have to reach out to Lab Ops for answers
How do you see technologies such as automation, AI, and smarter asset management changing the way labs operate in the future?
I see these technologies as allowing Lab Operations to operate more efficiently and transparently by utilizing these technologies
